RULES FOR USING THE GAME

Terms of Use

1. Provider and scope

These Terms of Use apply to the free art game “Guess the Artwork”, provided by Rasmus Hansen, Westerfeldstraße 21, 85737 Ismaning, Germany. Contact: contact@guesstheartwork.com.

By using the game, you agree to these Terms.

2. The game

Guess the Artwork lets players estimate the creation date and place of origin of artworks. Results and scores are intended solely for entertainment and cultural learning.

There is no entitlement to a particular selection of artworks or score, uninterrupted availability or the permanent availability of individual features.

3. Leaderboard

Participation in the leaderboard is voluntary. Player names are publicly visible. Names that are offensive, unlawful, misleading or infringe third-party rights must not be used.

Entries may be removed if they breach these Terms, manipulate the leaderboard or interfere with operation of the service.

4. Permitted use

The website may only be used in accordance with applicable law. Automated attacks, manipulation of scores, circumvention of technical safeguards and conduct that disrupts the website are prohibited.

5. Artworks, metadata and copyright

The displayed artwork images and core metadata come from the Open Access collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cleveland Museum of Art and are used only when identified as Public Domain or CC0.

CC0 does not automatically remove possible trademark, personality or other third-party rights. Any use outside this website is therefore at your own responsibility.

The website’s design, texts, specific implementation of the game mechanics and source code may be protected by copyright.

Guess the Artwork is not affiliated with, operated by or endorsed by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago or the Cleveland Museum of Art.

6. External services and links

The website uses or links to external services, in particular The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap. The respective providers are responsible for their content, availability and privacy practices.

7. Liability

No warranty is given for the completeness, historical accuracy or absence of errors in metadata, location information, translations or scoring results.

In cases of ordinary negligence, liability is limited to breach of material contractual duties and foreseeable damage typical for the contract. This limitation does not apply to intent, gross negligence, injury to life, limb or health, or mandatory statutory liability.

8. Changes and discontinuation

Features and content may be changed, expanded or discontinued for objective reasons. Material changes to these Terms will be indicated on the website.

9. Applicable law

German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which a consumer has their habitual residence remain unaffected.

If translations differ, the German version shall prevail.
